STUNNINGLY LIFELIKE! The woman’s astounding resealed quarter plate daguerreotype was copied from a painting. Erin certainly wasn’t sure when she bought the piece. Filthy glass obscured the delineations of the artwork enough to cause some consternation. The subject’s face was painted with such realism that one might ask if she had been taken from life, and the surface somehow retouched then daguerreotyped once again. Atkins was impressed in the lower left corner of the scalloped mat. Several operators plied their trades with the same name, making it impossible to know where this piece was done. The creamy tonality and the overall quality were exceptional! A few nearly invisible wipes run diagonally in the upper right corner. The remainder of spots and the tarnish are inconsequential. The cover of a leather case is missing.
