Quarter Plate

BY DR. VAN ALSTIN, BRINLEY HALL. I quite like that tiny, green paper label at the lower left on the mat. Van Alstin worked in Worcester, MA in the 1840s and 1850s. This quarter plate image is probably from the middle of his time there and pictures a bearded man, simply posed yet well shot and lit. The image was resealed nearly fifteen years ago and there is some slight moisture under the glass, nothing a new reseal wouldn’t take care of. He comes in a whole case.
