RATHER AGELESS. Although the woman shown in her retaped sixth plate daguerreian portrait appears to have survived a long and doubtlessly very full life, her downturned mouth didn’t convey displeasure, but rather a resolute firmness that carried her forward through thick and thin. She was taken by a skilled operator. His use of illumination from on high, his total mastery of his chemistry (creating sensational contrast and tones) and the crisp focus all worked harmoniously to propel the woman outside the brass oval into our space once the leather case with a separated cover is removed. A couple mold mites and mat scrapes are barely seen. The oxidation is quite nice.
