DEEP DEPTH PLUS! I can't be certain which Chase brother produced this outstanding resealed sixth plate, however I will assure you all that when the patron is viewed the next collector will be delighted. The man was expertly lit, the contrast achieved was at the pinnacle of what was possible in daguerreotypy and the tonal values were off the charts. This was an early example, circa 1845-1846, when the operator used that bare wooden table as a prop. The erudite and wealthy gentleman must have been quite pleased with his image. The leather on the wooden case is missing in many places. However, since it was original to the plate Casey convinced me to have him make a new leather hinge. The dag’s condition is like the day he was taken aside from colorful tarnish touching the inner edge of the half dome mat, that had “CHASE” impressed in the brass, lower right.
