BUTCHER, BAKER . . . Or was he a candlestick maker? This obviously working man wore a paper hat while he was seated on a small stool when the retaped sixth plate was taken. Of course, he also might have been familiar with type setting or printing a newspaper. Regardless of his occupation, the angular fellow was a soulful man. What perplexes me even more than his occupation was the reason someone roughly marred the back of his hand. Were they attempting to obscure a tattoo or remove a spot? I must mention that as the guy is examined in the bottom of his leather case, his shirt and headgear have several hues, from white to creamy yellow to a pale purplish blue. Oxidation is visible and white specks along with small mat marks are also seen.
