A PHILLY MAN? This gent was taken circa 1846, quite possibly in the studio of the Langenheim Brothers in Philadelphia. I suspect this because of the style of the portrait, crisp whites, rich blacks and superb reflected depth. Also, the separated leather case is one that they favored. The design was unusual and almost unique to their gallery. Mat abrasions mar the bottom and left side of the retaped sixth plate. The squiggly lines on the left are part of the patina that circle the fellow. This is one of the calmest men I have seen in a dag in a very long time. I wonder wo he was? Opposite the subject is a very dark deep green unadorned velvet pad.
