THE UNCERTAINTY OF IT ALL! The coquettish miss was daguerreotyped in Boston by one of the Chase brothers, who were born in Kensington NH. The name CHASE was stamped across the bottom of the sixth plate brass mat. After the exposure was completed, pink pigments were applied to the girl’s cheeks, lips and dress. At the best viewing angle, her remembrance leaps off the plate, as though the child wanted to be held. The horizontal lyre theme on both covers of the leather case suggests a date of 1845.
