A NOTATION . . . On a Filmoplast reseal done in Nov. 2010 by an unknown person had this information: "att: Charles Brown * 1831 Byron NY". There was no earlier data underneath the newly sealed sixth plate portrait that is kept in a late leather case with a worn repaired leather spine that could also have been used for an ambrotype since it had a black paper liner in the bottom. Mr. “Don Juan” or whomever he really was certainly thought of himself as an erudite and refined personality judging by his dynamic posture. His maker was McClees of Philadelphia, a titan of daguerreotypy in his own right. Oxidation and most spiders are obvious. The reflected depth is only revealed when the gent is admired in person.
