A BIT FORMAL! The men dressed in their best attire, making certain to tip up the brims of their hats insuring that the light entering the studio from the right side would not cast harsh forehead shadows. While the gent on the left laser focused his eyes on the lens, his companion also looked in that direction but he was less aware of the surroundings while their retaped quarter plate portrait was executed. I always wonder what the occasion was that caused a lavish expenditure on a retaped daguerreotype kept in a professionally repaired worn leather case. And of course, which subject kept this original? There could have been a second dag taken or a copy was made from this example. Both men wore pinky rings. The tight composition, broad tonality and excellent contrast helped to create an impressive likeness. None of the specks and flecks affect the sitters.
