RUMPLED CLOTHES! My first impression of this guy, seated for his retaped quarter plate dag was that he was presented with that suit jacket upon entering a daguerreian's gallery and told to wear it while the dark slide was pulled. Even the crisp white shirt and vest didn't seem to be perfect fits. Yet his hair was neatly combed and could any man have a more perfectly trimmed beard? His facial features were so well defined that even without the wonderful reflected depth they appear to be three-dimensional! So maybe those clothes were his and his maker, who was a technical genius with an artistic flair for composition too just didn’t pay close attention to his client’s wardrobe. For loyal readers, you all know how much I enjoy studying subjects’ hands in daguerreotypes. This fellow’s paws were used and abused in whatever trade he was engaged in performing! There are two miniscule bubbles in the silver top center, a green dot on the guy’s coat sleeve and a few mold spiders. The cover of a leather case is missing. This is an impressive likeness of a very intense gent.
