WAS THE DRESS . . . Really the color we see in the young lady’s garment or did her daguerreotypist take the liberty to brightly paint it for another reason, in a hue of his own choosing? The gal had a contemplative pose while the lens was uncapped and the dark slide pulled to make her fine restored sixth plate that has remained in pristine shape though the years. The paint on the floral tablecloth is easy to see but the subtle tinting of her flesh tones are really not entirely visible in my scan. The woman makes a fabulous impression when the complete leather case is opened. There is oxidation following the scalloped cut out of the brass mat.
