“MARSTERS BALTo.” That information was imbedded at the bottom of the sensitive and superbly tinted gent’s brass mat that framed him. Joseph Marsters plied his trade at 147 Lexington St. in Baltimore. He was located there in 1851 until after 1860. He actually began making fine dags in 1848 according to one of his advertisements. Outstanding light lit the narrow faced man who had a lengthy nose, nicely proportioned lips and clear bright eyes. Didn’t the guy appear to be at peace with himself in this retaped sixth plate that has good contrast and nice reflected depth? With that warm expression and layered coloring his face appeared lifelike. Those white dots were caused when contaminants of moisture-laden glass dripped on the silver. There is a brown stain above his shoulder. Tarnish stays close to the scalloped edges.
