RICH TONALITY! When either Lorenzo or Ezra Chase had all the particular elements working properly in the construction of a retaped sixth size daguerreian portrait, such as the one offered here, well they could certainly be considered first tier daguerreotypists. "CHASE" was boldly stamped in the lower right corner of the brass mat. Deep reflected depth was outstanding. Since the exposure would have been a few seconds, circa 1850, I wonder why the powerful and important appearing subject moved his craggy face while the lens was uncapped? Weird oxidation flows freely over the surface. The specks and flecks plus the minor mat marks are not bothersome. Before ending, I have studied his expression once again. The man seemed careworn when he was taken. A leather case is separated.
