Sixth Plate

THE PROPS . . . Obviously were extremely important to the gentleman who was holding that beautifully embellished red leather book and golden pen or pencil. I am absolutely certain that the silver was never cleaned, however the daguerreotypist’s chemistry really wasn’t totally up to snuff the day the fellow posed for his retaped sixth plate. The white slash inside the mat on the right was part of a cloth reflector. The marks opposite are tarnish eruptions. If nothing else, with the addition of those shirt studs, outlined with gold and daubed with red in the center and more gold painted on the gent’s ring, the artistic nature of the piece should be worth the money and you get the guy included inside his separated leather case.
