CAW-494. THE OPEN BOOK. Surely there must have been some significance in this setting that shares with us two lovely lasses expertly posed while their resealed quarter plate likeness was taken. It was common in the mid-19th century for women to read prose or poetry out loud to one or more companions. Was the gal with the marvelous soft dark eyes asked by the daguerreotypist to place her material on the small tinted cloth supported by an unseen piece of furniture? Surely her friend didn't change positions for the operator. Her wide blue eyes were directed towards the camera but focused on a point beyond the maker. Those dark ringlets perfectly coiled effectively framed one of the most beautiful faces I have seen in recent memory that was placed on highly reflective silver. None of the spots and dots seen in my scan affects their superb image that is kept in a leather case with a detached cover. $595
