| D11-5. KINDA COCKY. How could a little boy be daguerreotyped in a retaped ninth plate and show such an attitude in front of his maker? He leaned on a table giving his tiny torso a list to the left while that marvelous straw hat was cocked in the opposite direction. Even his bright blue eyes looking directly into the lens were rather unusual since they were barely recorded under those narrowed lids. Did he pull his hand upwards inside his tunic or was it obscured by thick colorful patina that fills the edges of the brass oval mat? Very sharp focus and a nice broad range of mid-tones along with his red tinted cheeks are all pluses on this spotless likeness. I have placed this marvelous kid in a mint thermoplastic case showing a child chasing butterflies, number 387 in Krainik. Inside is a splendiferous royal blue embossed velvet cushion. The entire package is an exceptional tiny treasure. $355 |
