| D09-119. WHERE'S THE FOCUS? Why, on the fabric hung behind the woman of course. The amateur daguerreian didn't want the lady sitting and resting one arm on a table next to tinted flowers any longer than necessary so he pre-focused the lens not realizing that the depth of field wouldn't permit her haunting eyes to be sharp. Broad window light from the lower right side of the woman's figure bathed her. For all of the flotsam and jetsam on the silver, along with lots of tarnish reaching out from the oval brass mat, there is not damage except for mat abrasions possible caused when someone else recently resealed the piece that was taken circa 1843. The complete sixth sized leather case with a cloth spine repair has a rare design on the cover that I have seen only once previously. $115 |
