| D08-214. MOTHER'S ANGEL! Specks in the brilliantly polished silver are visible in the upper right corner and a few mat scrapes in the patina are the only meaningless flaws in what I would describe as a pristine archivally taped quarter plate masterpiece. The lovely young mother was seated on a small chair with her torso turned away from a perfectly made lens. The daguerreotypist must have had a vision of epiphany when he studied her youngster; realizing instantaneously that he could produce an unequaled likeness of his subjects if only the child would cooperate. We will never know what he actually suggested to them. I will let their heavenly reproduction enlighten you all. Opening their leather case is 100 times more delightful than the pixels I have presented today! This was the highest peak achievable in the daguerreian era in presenting a perfect mother/daughter portrait! $5,500 |
