D06-195. HIS IMPRINT. Martin M. Lawrence, whose name is clearly seen in the lower left corner of the domed mat, was born in 1808. It has been suggested that he was making daguerreotypes as early as 1842, in his 34th year. By the time this delightful lass visited his studio, circa 1847, located at 152 Broadway, between Maiden Lane and Liberty St., Lawrence was making sixth plate daguerreotypes matching the highest tier of operators! For me to tell you that this is a superlative, resealed likeness, would be an understatement. The young woman is as alive today as she was when she visited him. Her plate is so perfect that it almost defies further description. That rainbow of patina is exceptional. Holographic presence, marvelous tonality and tremendous contrast are all fabulous. Yes folks, I do like the sitter, who is identified as Charlotte Gridley. There is more information written on the paper liner underneath her portrait in the whole leather case. The cover design is a pleasant mix of ovals and geometrics. The reverse is plain. $1,750
