D06-135. ALTHOUGH A LATER HAND ... was responsible for the information written in ink on the reverse of a Christmas greeting card, I have no doubt that the lovely smiling heroine elegantly posed for her sixth plate daguerreotype is Mary Elizabeth Rea, who married Mr. Wortman. Furthermore, she was the mother of Selina Wortman Cain. Miss Selina married Gardner H. Cain, a Trenton, NJ lawyer. Finally, the family historian noted that Reaville, NJ received its name from the Rea family. Now that all the unimportant information has been listed, let me tell you that Mary Elizabeth was a beautiful, friendly young lady when she was taken in the late 1850's. The maker made magic upon the brilliantly polished surface that is in immaculate condition. When the whole leather case is opened the beholder is guaranteed to be completely enamored with her picture. Subtle coloring was added to Miss Rea's flesh tones and all of her jewelry was touched with gold. At one angle, it is evident that the gold pigments have "bled" slightly, but they don't harm the subject in any way. Old, but not original seals and dirty glass are present. $555
