D06-110. EXTREMELY FORMAL! The extraordinary teenager was part of a group of half plate daguerreotypes that were purchased in Maine by another dealer. A couple of those plates had identified Philadelphia makers. The others, including this masterpiece all seem to have been taken in that city, although I don't know who was responsible for this effort. The puffed up young gentleman held his slender cane with his bare hand while keeping his other hand fashionably gloved. His large top hat rests next to his arm on that tiny tabletop. Although there is heavy swirling patina across the entire surface of the plate, Casey and I both immediately agreed not to alter the aging process when he conducted his restoration work. When the next owner opens the nearly pristine leather case, that has a lovely floral theme (with a large D in the lower center) he or she will be appropriately impressed with the strength of the chap to immediately realize WHY he remains as he is presented. As the surface is admired, amazing holographic depth and stunning tonality both leap off the nearly immaculate surface. (There are minor mat marks on the right side and one piece of dust above his glove that was trapped on the surface the day the image was taken). A brilliant embossed red velvet pad contrasts with the gorgeous fellow's appearance. His portrait can only be truly admired in your hands folks! $950
