D03-149. STRONG ARM. If you notice, across two-thirds of the very bottom of the sixth plate likeness, the fellow's arm has been placed. Was that used to stop our eyes from roaming around, forcing us to look across his expansive chest and square cut beard? The sitter had a broad mouth with narrow lips, a large chiseled nose and a wide expanse of forehead, complete with minor furrows. His crystalline blue eyes watched every move the maker made while peering through glasses that were more fashionable at the turn of the 19th century then in 1850, about the time of his retaped gem. There is a slight, shiny line of silver at the bottom of his lapel on the right side that is difficult to see. The patina is nice and the surface is immaculate. His intact leather case has a bird and grapes design. $225
