D00-93. UNDER THE BUBBLE! This very prominent gent was daguerreotyped by a superb craftsman who achieved stupendous tonality and contrast. Because the sixth sized image, which is still secured with tight, early paper seals, is covered by domed glass, the holographic depth is decided 3-D! His darkened torso looms below stiff starched collars that massage his rough jaw line. Scraggly sideburns flare out from his craggy face, which was expertly illuminated. The oval mat ushers in same shaped, rich blue, steel gray patina. The few brown spots on the superbly buffed surface are incidental. The subject is kept in a nice whole leather case with an outstanding green velvet pad opposite him. For a collector of striking male portraits, he should seriously be considered. $235
