D06-173. THOMAS HARTFORD WENTWORTH. Was the passing of the years kind or harsh on Thomas, who sat stiffly while his finely tinted flesh tones were arranged in a loose bust quarter plate portrait? Since his age isn't notated on the same piece of paper or written next to his name in the bottom of the separated leather case I guess we will never know. All of the strange lines and swirls surrounding him are part of the patina. The circular spot on his jacket isn't a green spot. It is a mold mite, probably a cousin to those other mold spiders. The brown dot on his face is part of the pigment used to color his skin. The superlative reflective depth creates masterful likeness. There are a couple mat scrapes on the upper left side. $500
