D04-97. BROADBENT'S ODDEST? This guy is definitely the type of man that must have the biggest entrance every time he walks through the door. I can picture him flashing a stark white cape before himself in order to stun his unwitting audience; then for an added effect he spins his matching white cane about his head to complete his arrival. He had his act down with such fluidity that he stunned inquisitive onlookers every time. As an extra feature his cape and cane were matched to the same color as his hair. I'm sure that his intense eyes didn't hurt his overall persona. They probably permitted him to pull this off his sense of style, sophistication and a slight air of snobbery. I like his patterned neckerchief, which were several different colors. And I bet his pinky ring harnessed some kind of mystical powers. Imprinted in the lower left corner of the mat is S.BROADBENT, who was an expert maker in Philadelphia, while traveling south during the winter months in the 1840's. A sixth plate, whole leather case with a three-flower design only tries to contain the great gentleman. An odd type of mold spider covers almost the entire plate, but can barely be seen. Near his face, shoulder and collar are small brown spots, as well as on the right side. They are light and not that noticeable. The dag has been resealed and is not really affected by them. $345
