D04-207. MRS. FUNKHAUSER. By the casual manner in which she is leaning on the small leather bound volume, I would chance to guess that it didn't belong to her. The title seems almost readable, but is not in focus enough, though I will have to try later with the loupe. She is wearing a rather fancy laced cap that contrasts well with her stark black dress. Written in the back of the case is: "Mrs. Jacob Funkhauser - Mother of M. P. Funkhauser - Before marriage was Eliza Pilar. Her second marriage was - to Capt. Davidson-". This is what we always hope to see when we take a daguerreotype out of its case for the first time. I don't think I've seen a more complete description written in the back of a case before this one. The only thing to make it better would have been to mention their dog Rover. The imprinted case pad has an interesting floral design with a leaf and curled branch in each corner. A whole leather case with an oval center motif and gold border on the outside and repeated inside, holds the resealed sixth plate daguerreotype. The holographic surface is in splendid condition, with tiny mat scrapes embedded in ancient tarnish along the mat edge. $160
