D04-101. HIDDEN FATHER. Yes, that is a man's pant leg in the right foreground of this lovely sixth plate image. Before I resealed this dag, I didn't really take a close look at it, so I was really surprised to see part of a man sitting at the edge of the plate. And dad did his job of calming her so she didn't blur her entire body during the exposure; only her little hands appear as ghosts. Two brown spots are camouflaged in the couch, and otherwise the plate is flawless. She is standing on a very unique and interesting sofa that I don't think I've seen before in a daguerreotype. If anyone recognizes the sofa as belonging to a particular making, it sure would be nice to know who created such a wonderful dag. A perfect ring of tarnish encircles the child making a nice border inside the bright mat. The plate has been resealed and is held in a half leather case with a geometric design. $210
