D03-145. SOMEONE'S DEATH . . . caused this women to mourn their passing. She is cloaked in black and wears a sad mask of loss and tragic unhappiness on her careworn face. She is naturally vignetted by a hazy layer of patina. Her somber mood was lightened somewhat by the addition of fine pigments on the tablecloth and excellent coloration of her face and hands. Never-the-less, consummate sadness is completely etched on her face. Even her body language tells us that she has had a terrible ordeal. Using a loupe, I examined her coal black brooch, which appears to have three initials placed on the surface. Those of her beloved husband? Her tired hands placed on the folds of her dark costume signify years of toil. Her sixth plate daguerreotype, that has been archivally sealed, represents an image of pathos rarely encountered on the highly reflective, silvered surface. All of the dots and mold spiders are less apparent when the very worn wooden and paper case is opened. $185
