D02-56. LONG ARM. I wish he were wearing a badge and I could add, "of the law" to this fanciful description. The very cautious gent was posed for his sixth plate in an odd arrangement. Usually subjects aren't turned sideways and seated behind a table. This young man knew what to do. He leaned heavily on his arm and perfectly placed his hand just over the end of the cloth that is nicely tinted. The books near his elbow actually help fill the lower portion of the sealed surface, which is in mint condition. The patina works very effectively. Almost as a very narrow, eye-pleasing vignette. I have always enjoyed the usage of the repetitive, six-sided design in this octagonal brass mat. There is a faded plain plush red pad opposite the man. At one time, I think his identity was glued to the surface on a piece of paper. Now, there are remnants of that paper and nothing more. The whole leather case has a Grecian Urn design on the front and a plain reverse. $295
