D02-149. YOUNG COWGIRL. Anxious to get out of that chair and back outside to all its wonder, the child is almost falling or jumping out of the seat. She is eager to get back to exploring and imagining, as all young children do. I call her a cowgirl because of the shape of the hat and how one side is turned up, but I have just noticed that the hat appears to be straw. I am not sure if cowpokes wore hats made of that material, yet hers is. What a delightful little girl, she puts a smile on my face whenever I look at her. I suppose that the dark belt around her waist is actually not that, but in fact probably a means to secure the child to the chair so she did not move during the exposure. If my assumption is correct, then this strap did its job very well because she is crystal clear in her sixth plate daguerreotype. The condition is nearly perfect, lest an odd mark on her forehead that is not on the plate surface because it goes negative when turned, as does the rest of the plate. There are also a couple of scummy streaks above the table and a few teeny mold mites. I look at her hands and it is amazing how well they are in focus. She is slightly tinted on her face and hands. The resealed plate is in a whole leather case of an interesting design. $575
