D02-121. HER OWN GIANT. "Wow, damn is he big!" I think those were the first words that I uttered upon seeing this sixth plate daguerreotype. Assuming that the average female (in 1850) was probably about 5 ft 2 in, and he is over a foot taller than she is, then his height would be upwards of 6 ft 5 in. And look at the size of his hand, it must be double hers, and bigger than her head! When it came time for him to get a new suit, I'm sure his local tailor always wore a smile on his face and rubbed his hands together, because this guy needed more fabric to cover himself and was a custom fit; which meant the clothier could charge extra for the work. I wonder what he wore for shoes? Both of their outfits are accented with gold tinted jewelry. The sheer size of this gentleman long ago split the case. A minor scratch is above her head and a deep buff stoke is to her left. There are layers of oxidation covering the entire portrait. However, at one angle, the couple's tinted flesh tones are still vibrant. The plate has been resealed. $165
