D01-77. IMPRESSIVE PANTS. When this young man strolled through his town I bet the locals took notice. He seems tall and nicely dressed. The operator placed two books under his left elbow to square up his shoulders, ordered him to remain calm and look into the brass and glass lens. Since the maker was proficient in sixth plate preparation and the subject cooperated, his client was rewarded with an honest exquisite likeness. The surface has mat abrasions, deep blue patina and a large multi-hued spot on the gent's left shoulder. The plate is resealed. The whole black leather case has a very unusual variant of the lyre motif. An octagonal frame borders the central theme. The image is circa 1844. $300
