EEW-61. PASSIVE CONFIDENCE. Unlike another male dag in this offering, the fellow in this sixth plate that was sealed a couple days ago, has a calming affect on the viewer when the separated leather case cover is removed. The maker must have taken other subjects who wanted to wear their glasses since he was able to use elegant lighting and not get a reflection in those glasses. While the range of tones is excellent, a pleasing creaminess matches the mellow demeanor of the man. Was he a doctor or a man more familiar with the pulpit? There is daguerreian frosting in the darker areas of the likeness. Red wax is on the copper side of the plate. That technique held a wooden block that would have been either held by hand or clamped while the buffing was done. There is a mat mark top center, a faint scratch upper left in the drop and some various specks and flecks. The ring of patina bulges inwards on the right side. "Holmes Booth & Hayden Patent Applied For" is stamped on the reverse of the very fancy brass mat. $135
