EEW-14. LEARNED WOMAN. What a portrait! This resealed quarter plate daguerreotype pictures a stout, older woman who looks to have paused in the act of reading. The words on the page are tantalizingly just out of focus. She wears a bonnet edged with lace and her black curls frame her face. She stares at you through her glasses. Her watch is just peeking out her pocket. The daguerreotypist had her lean to the side so that she could rest an arm on the table and place her head in the center of the image. There is no tinting at all on the likeness, but the blue green tarnish adds a color to the plate. There is a scattering of mold spiders on the surface, mostly in the background. She comes in a whole leather case with intact spine. $165
