| EEW-125. ALL IS BETTER! When have you seen such a luscious preview of the original resealed sixth plate portrait that I presented in this adequate scan? The pretty teenager focused her green eyes across the room while the daguerreotypist exposed his nearly perfect plate. There is one horizontal line above the girl's head because a piece of grit scored the silver during the final polish. Also, during the lifespan of the likeness one area of copper has broken the surface on the subject's dark dress. I don't want to create more melodrama than the flowing vignette provides visually but I wonder if the gal was in mourning. The dreamy setting around her and the fact that both her clothing and ribbons were most likely black does suggest the passing of a recent loved one. Regardless of the reason for her visit to a studio in the mid-1850s the artifact that has a leather case in two parts is amazing for its quality. The maker tinted his client's flesh with a professional hand and painted her jewelry golden. Billowing patina follows the shape of the unusual brass mat. $550 |
