D8-152. REVEALING! Illuminating a sixth plate subject was one of the key elements in making daguerreotypes. Correctly accomplished and the results were stunning as we can observe in the elegant face of this older sitter. Every contour, line and detail is remarkably captured on the perfectly polished silvery surface. The entire image, surround by deep blue patina, has a remarkable chocolate hue. I should mention the lighting scheme. The maker had a window above his shoulder height on the left side. He used a pair of large white reflectors, one on the right side and the other under the camera. There are a minimal amount of specks and flecks visible and the portrait is held in half a thermoplastic case with a simple early geometric design. $175
