D2-114. HEAVENLY ASPECT! The scanned reproduction of this superlative quarter plate daguerreotype, executed by McClees & Germon in their Philadelphia studio tells a complete story of how the little lad was positioned in an awesome wooden chair. The double wooden loops created "Angelic Wings" highlighted by the partners' brilliant use of critically controlled illumination. The depth of the child's perfectly tinted face is remarkable. His painted plaid tunic is so realistic that one can feel the fabric. The boy's hands are partially obscured by his bunched up trousers. M & G's ability to pluck the subject out of that dark void behind him is just incredible. The three-dimensionality of the resealed gem is unsurpassed. The few random mold spiders and a couple teeny specks on the kid's forehead mostly disappear at the best angle of inspection. An extremely mild wipe seems to cross the surface on a diagonal from the lower left to the upper right over his chest. The Philadelphia style, leather floral theme case has a repaired spine. $2,150
