Her focus was directed past the camera and I wonder what she was thinking when the moment of truth occurred? That dainty white collar was held in place with a small metallic broach. The mature child's dress was boldly patterned and in sharp focus like her face until the depth of field slowly gave way. This is a classic example of how a daguerreian could control the sharpness with such perfection. In fact, everything about the likeness is absolutely stellar.
