D07-82. IT'S UNUSUAL . . . to have a child pose in this manner with one arm thrust through the back of a chair while seated and turned sideways! Studying the lad's stern expression might be an indication of why the maker opted for the arrangement. The boy was obviously ready to depart before his newly sealed sixth plate was completed. Someone convinced him to stay and we are rewarded with his daguerreotype. It is interesting to examine the plate beginning with his dangling leg, moving along to his shoe resting on a chair rung, then across the flowing plaid dress and along his arms till we finally pause on his tinted face. I studied the subject for many minutes trying to determine how much of the corroded glass had wept on to the silver. There are light white specks on the kid's face and in several other places. Fainter mold marks are near the mat along with abrasions on the left side. Patina surrounds the tyke whose likeness is very three-dimensional. The ordinary leather case is apart. $335
