| D05-128. LOVED ONES ON SILVER. Mother held her cherished daguerreotype displaying a young couple, who might have been their children or one child with his spouse while her grumpy husband, who probably was told the price of their archivally sealed sixth plate dag BEFORE they sat together, has his glasses wedged between two of his fingers. He really is scowling! Only his wife's shining eyes show a hint of spark, since her crooked down turned mouth doesn't seem overly friendly either. Direct light from behind the left side of the camera bathed them with brightness. Note the man's shadow on the neutral cloth behind him. Their portrait has excellent depth, clarity and contrast. The later case has a separated hinge. One white dust dot and a couple black specks are on the pristine surface. Please see the second scan for a closer look at the open dag. $595 |
