D04-6. WHAT'S SHE HOLDING? Dags such as this always intrigue me because of the way the little gal is elevated and almost looking down at us. Although she is not actually looking down, you can understand the effect. The child is staring straight ahead, most likely at her parents or the daguerreotypist. Whoever it was, they definitely told her to stay still, while looking towards the camera. The surface has some miniscule mold spiders and two or three small white spots are present. They do not affect the resealed sixth plate overall. Perhaps the mystery object in her lap was given to the child in order to help calm her; something to keep her occupied so she didn't wiggle around during the exposure. It looks small enough to be a dag case, either ninth or sixth plate, but the visible edge might suggest that she holds a small change purse. What do you think? The rose theme leather case is split at the spine. $220
