D04-165. GREEN EYE (S) AND VEST. I cannot decide if both of this young man's eyes are tinted green or not. The rest of his face is very nicely colored, as is his striped vest. This sixth plate image is one of those daguerreotypes that really 'pops' as you turn it in different directions. Although, head on, the darkest areas of the image are covered with daguerreian frosting, the young man has a presence that begs closer inspection. His ebony coat blends into the dark background so that his handsome face and green vest draw all of the attention. The image is masterfully composed. The heaviest oxidation follows the shape of the octagonal mat, while a weak white haze covers most off the silver. The surface of the resealed image has a few mold spiders. He comes in a half leather case. $200
