D04-110. GOTHIC CHAIR. Although this ornately carved chair is itself very unique, I know that I have seen one similar to it or maybe even the same design. Not to poke fun at the woman in this sixth plate, but without the chair this image would be pretty much plain as they come. It adds a charge of mystique otherwise not found in many daguerreotypes. Looking more closely at her I can see that her dress has an interesting design and her jacket appears to be velvet. Touching her lace collar are her long earrings. Unfortunately there are small pings at her brooch, above her head and to the left and right of her. They don't really affect the dag, and are more noticeable in the negative. A couple brown spots are also seen, above her head and on the tablecloth. A split leather case with a bird and bunch of grapes holds the resealed dag. $145
