D03-96. A SILVER RATTLE. That's what the startled baby is holding in her tiny hand. If you look closely, the kid's mother has one finger, covered by a black lace glove with an open end, resting on her babe's pudgy fist. Brightness entered the operating room from directly above and behind the camera. I made a couple attempts to duplicate the excellent tinting on this retaped ninth plate. However, the yellow in the dress and marvelous flesh tones aren't nearly as pleasing to the eye until the whole leather case is opened and the likeness is examined. A few brown specks live in the lower right corner. The dark curved line above them was something on the child's dress. This is an exceptional tiny treasure made after 1850. $185
