D03-170. MASTER MAKER. Not only did the unidentified daguerreotypist manage to create two superlative sixth plate daguerreotypes, he had the brilliance to nestle them inside an Eickmeyer book style leather case with side-by-side compartments. When the large latch is unhooked we are greeted by this foursome. Mother was given the responsibility of cradling their newborn infant. She did an excellent job; managing to keep the babe relatively calm even though its hand was flailing. The pair are brillia ntly illuminated and were placed in front of a dark hole back drop that allows their image to have spectacular depth!!! There is thin patina on the flawless surface which, like the companion piece, has been archivally resealed. Dad and his adorable cro ss-eyed daughter are just as delightful. Like his wife, he also has a proud expression on his very friendly face. The little girl followed the maker's instruction, although her pose is rather stiff, even a bit odd. In spite of her eye deficiency, I thi nk the child is cute. She and he were taken against a mid-tone cloth. Their lighting was more direct and less sculptured. Once again, outstanding tonality and contrast created excellent reflections. Only that odd eruption of oxidation clouds their pl ate. There are a couple nearly invisible brown spots at the bottom of the gent's vest, only really seen in the negative. I highly recommend this family. $645
