D02-29. THE WINNER WAS. Clearly the battle was over and Miss Ema Smith Squires of Syracuse, NY, had relented to having a sixth plate taken. Her forlorn expression is the only indication of the disagreement she had with her parents. And within her silent sufferings she managed to sit rather demurely in the small child's chair and calmly watch the operator do his thing, quite adequately I might add. In the bottom of the whole leather case additional information written in pencil says, "give to cousin Ed her brother Lind". I am rather curious about Ema's dark hands and wrists, since her complexion is rather fair otherwise. What would a child of her age get into that might cause such staining of the skin? Makin' mud pies for the daguerreotypist? She actually glistens on a sparkling resealed plate that has scalloped oxidation inside the mat and minor abrasions in the upper left corner. There are a few teeny brown spots too. $285
