D02-124. FRIENDLY FACE. Those dark dusky eyes and her very pleasant expression are alluring. The young gal must have spent hours preparing her hair and clothing before she visited an unknown daguerreian to have her resealed sixth plate portrait made. He was certainly equal to his subject. Although her casual pose might seem rudimentary, the operator used a table that was a perfect height for the woman to rest her arm upon. Consequently, her hands were placed comfortably and created an outstanding beginning point for all present day viewers to examine the likeness. There is a freshness to this marvelous image that most daguerreotypes lack. The excellent tonality and bright whites in her fancy collar and blouse sleeves create a crisp appearance. Her dress is expertly sewn. The multi-hued patina is quite visible. There are two mat scrapes at the top right corner. On the opposite side above her shoulder, is a milky area that can be seen when the piece is nearly turned to the negative. That table cloth is tinted about as brilliantly blue as was done in the dag era. She is held in the bottom half of Rufus Anson's favorite leather case. A tiny cherub is impressed in the center, surrounded by circles of filigree and geometric shapes. $260
