D01-57. ATTACHED LACE! Rarely do we have the opportunity to purchase a remnant of the clothing (in this instance, possibly a portion of the woman's lace collar) that actually appears in a resealed sixth plate portrait. The strength of the lady, who was daguerreotyped circa 1845, is impressive. Her maker instructed her to remain calm and sit still, while directing her gaze into his lens. Her lovely light eyes were unwavering during the 5-10 second exposure. The focus and lighting were both excellent. The velvet fabric in her cape is so rich that you want to reach through the new glass to touch it. The lace is tacked onto the plain red velvet pad that is inside a extraordinary whole leather case. The cover theme, showing flowers and filigree, is very uncommon. The reverse is plain. The matron is framed by stylish paper mat with a gilded and pebbled surface. The plate has some decay that is clearly seen in the scan. There are no scratches or green specks. $500 |
