D01-55. LOW CUT DRESS. Surely when I removed the very brittle, still tight seals, she must have been a virgin (okay, in the sense that human hands hadn't defiled her; I mean, well I better bail now) and say that there are some funky oxidation drops at the top of the plate. A brown dot above her breast and several less noticeable ones are scattered about, along with some mold spiders. The late portrait reveals a hair style and very fancy fringes. The lovely lady is wearing absolutely drop dead earrings and a superbly crafted jet bracelet. The maker created brilliant reflected depth and carefully tinted her flesh tones. I like the subject's direct eye contact with the lens and her purposefully placed arm across her body. Rich patina frames her nicely inside the unusual oval mat opening. The whole leather case with a gorgeous unadorned deep purple velvet pad is a very close copy of a sixth plate Eickmeyer case which was patented in February, 1855. $450
