D01-135. HOLDING HIS ARM. Curiously, the shooter chose to place the younger boy at a higher head height then his more mature brother. The kid used that classic "upturned palm grab" on his sibling's arm and if you examine that hand closely you will notice that it moved slightly during the few seconds of exposure time. They were expertly made by a man who achieved outstanding contrast and tonality. He added pleasant coloring to their flesh tones. There are a few teeny orange/brown specks visible in the scan. When the resealed sixth plate is held and turned completely negative, a few more appear. None of them hinder this exceptional childhood portrait. The leather case is extremely worn and has a repaired hinge. It is an unusual design showing a diamond and tulip arrange that is the correct time frame for the image, made circa 1846-48. $345
